Buttock Agumentation

They’re some of the most envied backsides in Hollywood. J.LO, Beyonce…no doubt their curvaceous derrieres have set a trend ablaze. “I always wear fitted jeans,” says Marcella Bequillard. “Beef up the bottom area, beef up your butt a little, make it perky,” says Jill LaVorgna. Many women are now turning to buttock augmentation in an effort to compete with some of the best bottoms in Tinsel Town. “A butt lift is mostly a buttock enlargement or a buttock augmentation, but indirectly it causes some lifting of the buttocks, and basically it re-contours or reshapes the buttock,” says Dr. George Lefkovits of Lenox Hill Hospital.

Many women are now turning to buttock augmentation in an effort to compete with some of the best bottoms in Tinsel Town.

A procedure called fat grafting uses the patient’s own fat for buttock enhancement.

 Dr. Lefkovits uses a method of liposuction to first procure the fat. “Usually when patients have enough fat I prefer the abdomen and the hip areas or the flanks, those are the two most common areas, we also use the inner thighs, we also use the arms, we can use the back, we can use the outer thighs as well,” says Dr. Lefkovits.

During the procedure, which takes around an hour and a half, fat is injected through two small incisions and carefully layered through tunnels throughout the buttocks. 30-35% of patients will need a repeat fat grafting because of the significant absorption of fat. Donor sites are usually sore and can cause significant discomfort after the procedure.

As a result, patients usually need massage and ultrasound treatments post-surgery for around five weeks. “The areas that we took the fat from, the so called modified liposuction areas because they tend to be a bit hard and bruised and by implying the massage and ultrasound treatments it helps and accelerates the healing process to these areas,” explains Dr. Lefkovits.

Risks of the procedure include bleeding, infection, and scarring. Following surgery patients, in New York, New Jersey and other states, wear a special surgical garment for 1-2 weeks for comfort and to minimize swelling. When it comes to physical activity, most patients can resume exercise after 2 weeks. The average cost of buttock augmentation using fat injection is approximately $10,000.
