Throughout his career, Dr. Chiu has striven to offer patients with deformity or debilitation better options for repair and recovery. He’s credited as the inventor of the Autogenous Venous Nerve Conduit technique for repairing damaged or severed nerves. He’s still one of the few specialists in the world that are capable of performing this ground-breaking procedure. Surgeries of the hand often involve repairing fractures, dislocations, severed digits as well as reconstructing bones, skin and muscles damaged through injury, trauma or defect. Because of his background in plastic surgery and skill as a microsurgeon, Dr. Chiu is able to address asthetic as well as fuctional concerns. Dr. Chui has had several academic appoitments in his career. He previously served as the Director of the Plastic Surgery Service Columbia-Presbytarian Medical Center. Since 2004, he has been the Chief of the Hand Surgery Program and the Director of the Hand Surgery Fellowship at the Institute of Reconstructive Surgery at New York University.
